It's Friday and time for a weekly summary of news related to Artificial Intelligence, Keepin' Up with the Chatbots. Google is expected to soon release Gemini AI, its answer to ChatGPT, and I'm a bit excited and curious to see how it matches up with other chatbots and LLMs.
Meanwhile, what chatbots are you or have you tried using? I've tried several different chatbots and while I still have the paid version of ChatGPT, I've been using other chatbots I think are better and less expensive.
Concerns about AI displacing human jobs continues. I don’t blame people for being afraid. But maybe the approach should be to embrace AI with courage and boldness? Why not? Remember when social media was supposed to kill television and movies? Remember when television was supposed to kill the radio?
None of that happened.
This week's news in Keeping Up with the Chatbots:
Google is reportedly close to launching its conversational artificial intelligence software called Gemini, which aims to compete with OpenAI's GPT-4 model and includes large-language models for various applications such as chatbots, text summarization, code writing, and image generation.
6 Best ChatGPT Alternatives in 2023: The article provides a list of the six best alternatives to ChatGPT for text generation in 2023. Of the six listed, I've used four. How many have you tried and which ones do you like best? I'm a big fan of POE.
Study Finds 75% of U.S. Adults Expect Job Pool to Shrink Due to AI: A study reveals that 75% of U.S. adults anticipate a reduction in job opportunities due to the increasing presence of artificial intelligence (AI) in various industries. But this won't happen overnight and even if it did, wouldn't it allow people to do other, more productive things?
Entertainment Companies Hiring AI Specialists Amid Hollywood Strike: Despite the ongoing Hollywood strike by actors and writers, entertainment studios such as Netflix, Disney, and Sony are actively hiring AI specialists to leverage emerging technology and stay ahead of the competition, amidst concerns about the impact of AI on the industry.
Google has developed an AI chatbot called Med-PaLM 2, which is being tested at the Mayo Clinic and aims to answer medical questions, with the company introducing benchmarks to evaluate the efficacy and accuracy of AI chatbots in the medical setting, addressing concerns about potential harm, bias, and misinformation. Excuse me, doctor. Is that an AI in your office? Why, yes, indeed! We can expect to see more AI assisting doctors, nurses, and a wider spectrum of healthcare employees as the chatbots evolve.
The best quote I've seen so far about employment and AI is the one that says something like, "It ain't AI that will take your job. It'll be someone trained in AI who will take your job."
This is an exciting time for artifical intellgence, chatbots, and everything in between. Stay tune for next week’s Keepin’ Up with the Chatbots!
